Intern Spotlight: Jasmine Garcia

We were fortunate to have Jasmine Garcia join our team during the 2023 - 2024 school year where she worked on Keep Decker Lake Beautiful. Jasmine’s project focused on exploring the opportunity for a community organization to provide philanthropic support for Decker Lake in West Valley City. Jasmine’s project culminated in the creation of the Re-Imagining Decker Lake Park report for us. To quote the report:

“Decker Lake Park is a Class Two Regional Park located in West Valley City. For years, the park has had unmet maintenance and supervision needs and, as a result, the park’s function and purpose to serve all users has been limited.”

We’re grateful for Jasmine’s hard work. She played a crucial role in our decision not to pursue the creation of Keep Decker Lake Beautiful at this time. She demonstrated not only technical skills but also the ability to think critically and work collaboratively with our team.

As Jasmine moves forward in her career, we have no doubt that she will continue to achieve great things. We are grateful for her many contributions and wish her all the best in future endeavors.

Thank you, Jasmine, for an outstanding internship. Your impact on our team has been invaluable, and we’re excited to see where your journey takes you next.

Editor’s Note: While the Re-Imagining Decker Lake Park report clearly demonstrates the need for future investment in the park, the Utah Center for Civic Improvement opted not to move forward with the creation of Keep Decker Lake Beautiful. This decision was driven by the fact that both Salt Lake County and West Valley City have created new programming and made new investments in the park. We determined that there was no need for another entity to participate in revitalizing Decker Lake.
